Mi gente.

Caballos y peces.

                                                        (Caballos y peces)

Mi gente.

Quiero descubrir mi gente

en su trajinar sencillo

pero, siempre ahogados

en su miseria, en la tragedia

de las necesidades

cansados de la mentira

y del robo sin decoro

de la plusvalía diaria.

Quiero descubrir mi gente

en el jolgorio de sus fiestas

en el desenfreno del amor

sin tapujos, de los besos

silenciosos en los callejones

del misterio,

en el triunfo de sus miradas

llanas, en sus manos callosas

rebanando el pan de la mañana

en el orgullo de sus tareas

terminadas.

Quiero descubrir mi gente

y sus rostros curtidos por el frío

cordillerano de el viento relente

y sus pieles ajadas por la helada

que se filtra entre las murallas

carcomidas.

Quiero descubrir mi gente

viéndolos vencer el calor de la pampa

y en el campamento pala tras pala

excavando el barro que cada cruel

invierno los castiga sin misericordia.

Quiero descubrir mi gente

en lo férvido de sus caras

la ira por el destino aciago

y su mirada febril por no poder

brindarles el pan diario a su prole.

Quiero algún día descubrir mi gente

mirando cada amanecer

con el corazón henchido

por las esperanzas satisfechas.

My people.

I want to discover my people

in its simple way of living

but always drowned

in their misery, in the tragedy

of the needs

tired of the lie

and the robbery without decorum

of their daily gain.

I want to discover my people

in the revelry of his parties

in the openly love without restrain

and the silent kisses

in the mystery alleys

in the triumph of their

unpretentious looks

in their calloused hands

slicing the bread at morning

in the pride of their tasks

finished.

I want to discover my people

and their faces hardened by the cold

of the mountain range of the dew wind

and their skins worn by frost

that filters through the decayed

walls.

I want to discover my people

seeing them beat the heat of the pampas

and in the shanty town shovel after shovel

digging the mud that every unkind

Winter punished without mercy.

I want to discover my people

in their fervid faces

the anger by the tragic destiny

and his feverish eyes for failing to

provide daily bread for their offspring.

I want to someday find my people

looking every sunrise

with their heart filled with

hope .
